Tips for Handling Corporate Life and Work Management

Corporate life can be quite stressful and with the current uncertain climates, you need to have somewhat of a coping mechanism. Often stress can hinder productivity, and can also affect your health. TelKee Key Cabinets has some tips for handling corporate life and work management so that it need not always be the case.

Tip 1: Recognising the Warning Signs of Stress

Being overwhelmed at work can really impact your attitude and confidence, often making you less productive and effective in your day-to-day work. These are some of the signs and symptoms of workplace stress:

  • Muscle tensions/headaches
  • Concentration/Stomach problems
  • Social withdrawal
  • Apathy
  • Anxiety, irritability, and depression
  • Substance abuse as coping mechanism

A common cause of excessive job/workplace stress levels would be pressure to perform with great expectations compared to no increase in job satisfaction.

Tip 2:  Reducing Stress Levels by Taking Care of Yourself

When it gets to the point where stress is taking over your life, in terms of job performance, your personal life and health, it is a clear sign that something needs to be done.  You have to make sure that you put your physical and mental health first, start taking steps, pay attention to these issues, and remedy them. When you are feeling better, you will be stronger, both physically and emotionally, to cope with the stress. Things you can do include:

  • Exercise
  • Diet choices
  • Moderating alcohol consumption
  • Sleep
  • Support system

Tip 3: Prioritising and Organising Work to Reduce Stress

One way of making sure you are not overwhelmed is to regain control by organising and prioritising work with time and task management skills. These are well received and work wonders.  Time management tips include creating a balanced schedule, not over-committing/over-scheduling, leaving earlier every morning, and planning regular breaks (to recharge). Task management tips include prioritising tasks, breaking projects into sub-tasks/steps, delegating responsibility, and being willing to compromise when the need arises.

One of the key things to note is that you need to make changes to elevate your situation. These include:

  • Responsibility to improve physical and emotional health
  • Conditioning yourself to avoid knee jerk responses with relation to stress levels and negative attitudes/habits
  • Improve communication to promote better attitudes and relationships in the workplace (with the management and colleagues)
