Finding Your Most Productive Time to Work

If the standard 9am to 5pm work hour schedule doesn’t work for you and leaves your work productivity in dire need for a boost, what do you do? You are not alone, there is an increased number of employees  reporting back that despite their best efforts and boosted caffeine intake, they find themselves hitting a productivity slump during the workday. Telkee key cabinets did some research and here’s a few ideas to help you get through it.

Finding the most productive work schedule isn’t that hard to do – it just requires you to pay close attention to your habits. This will help you identify if you work better at night or during the day, which you can than amend your work hours to reflect  if you work from home or have a flexible work arrangement.

If you find that getting through your workload is a hard task and you invariably have a lot left over at the end of the week, it most probably means that you aren’t managing your time efficiently. Use a time tracking software to list out how you spend your time daily. At the end of the week, you’ll be able to identify some of the obstacles that are affecting your time management negatively. Here are just a few possibilities –

  • -Failing to set priorities

  • -Not enough planning

  • -Distractions – social media, the phone ringing etc

  • -Procrastinating

  • -Multitasking

After you identify your obstacles, it’s important to take a look at your tasks on a weekly or daily basis and setup a schedule where you work on important tasks during the first half of your work hours when you have the most energy and then move onto daily, easy tasks during the rest of your day to maximise your productivity.

Also split your day into chunks where you allow yourself 10-15 minute breaks where you can check emails, phone and give into any distractions that come along before moving onto your next task. Research has proven that this simple practice can result in a surprising boost to your work productivity.

Once you’ve found a schedule that works well, you should move onto adopting new habits that will help you stay efficient. Keeping your work area clean and clutter-free is an important item to add to your to-do list. An organised workstation means you’ll be able to find what you need faster and will also result in less distractions which can bring down your work productivity.
